September 29th Home Needed for Pebbles - Columbia/Lexington, SC
Dog Photo We took Pebbles in from a rescue in WV who needed to place a lot of dogs quickly due to the rescuers illness. They had her for 4 years after she was abandoned, and we have had no luck placing her, either. Pebbles may be a Doberman mix, but who knows? She could be something else, too. But no-one seems to want a middle-aged mix. The people who come to us want young purebred Dobermans. Pebbles is easygoing and well behaved. Since we don't have any foster homes, she is boarding at one of our vet offices. Luckily they have a doggie daycare and let her play there. She gets along great with the other dogs there. Pebbles really needs to get adopted and learn what a loving, safe forever home is like. We are not looking to send her to another rescue, but please spread the word about her in order to help her find her special place. click here to check that this dog is still available. If you live in the Columbia/Lexington area and would like to foster Pebbles please contact us.

September 28th New Home Needed for 3 Chihuahuas - South Central Florida
I need to find a home for my 3 Chihuahua dogs. I am having a hard time finding a home for Itty Bitty, who is 9 years old, is blind in one eye, has a pin in his leg, is neutered, and very little hair, but he has a big heart. Bella who is 6 years old and is very loving; and Meja (meha) who is very timid to strangers. Someone is caring for them temporarily and I need to have them another situation as soon as possible. Do you know of someone that can help me? If you are interested in these dogs please email adverte168@dogrescues.info Area: South Central Florida
September 28th New Home Needed for Cocker Spaniel - Woodstown, NJ
My wife and I have a 11 year old Black male Cocker Spaniel. We have a 1 year old child and have our second on the way. My wife and I love Sambuca (Sammy) very much but he has snapped at our son and we are afraid of it happening again. Sammy is very good with adults but not well with kids that want to hug and play with him. He is a great dog but he is becoming a concern in our house. If you can help us we would appreciate it and all we want for him is a good home for him. If you are interested in this dog please email adverte169@dogrescues.info Area: Woodstown, NJ
September 23rd New Home Needed for Boxer Mix - South East Ohio
I need a new home for a 1 year old neutered male Boxer mix. He is housebroken and is up to date on all shots. He has had his tail docked and dew claws removed. He are rehoming him due to a divorce. If you are interested in this dog please email adverte167@dogrescues.info Area: South East Ohio
September 12th Rescue Needed for Dogs at Closed Shelter - Whitestown, IN
Hello, I am a volunteer at Tails A' Waggin' Rescue in Indiana. After seven years, we are closing due to lack of funds and volunteers. Our director just told me that she accepted an offer on the building and land we are on, so I don't have much time. Please help find thgese dogs a home. E-mail me at tracy@tailsawaggin.org if you can help. I can help with transport, particularly, but not limited to, the Midwest.

Dog Photo Skeeter was found hanging upside down on a fence after he was thrown from a car. Several vets told the woman who found them to put Skeeter down. But this kind lady did not have the heart to do it. She called our rescue for help. Skeeter was only a few months old at the time. After a lengthy period of time and a lot of therapy, Skeeter is doing fine. He is now about 6 years old and has been neutered. His ordeal has left him with a bum leg. It had been broken in several places, but this has not slowed him down! Sadly, Skeeter has lived the majority of his life in our shelter. He will need patience and a very loving family as everything is new to him. He is very affectionate and loves to be loved on. He would do best with some obedience training as he so wants to do what you want him to do. He can be a little dog aggressive, especially with males. He loves people and would do best in a family with older kids. Can you, or someone you know provide that special home he so deserves. Please help Skeeter's story have a happy ending. He is such a very good boy. Our shelter is closing, and Skeeter is running out of time.

Dog Photo Ms. Farah is a very special girl. She has had a hard life and was likely beaten by her previous owners. Farah is very uncertain of new people, but if you're patient, she will trust you and be your best friend. The leash is the way to her heart as she LOVES to be walked. She has had back surgery during her long stay at our shelter, but is doing fine. At some point it is likely that she will need some vet prescribed anti-inflammatory medicine. She is undeterred and quite intent on going for a lot of walks. She is housetrained and would do best in a home with no kids or cats. Farah is spayed and about 8 years old. Farah has been waiting so long for her forever home and Farah is running out of time.

Dog Photo Dino is about 8 years old. He is a beautiful buff colored Labrador with a pinkish nose. He is very smiley and knows basic commands. He LOVES adults! He has been mistreated by kids and doesn't like them at all. He is not just a pretty face as he has plenty of charm and smarts to go with his good looks. He may be housetrained and is a total love bug. He walks well on a leash. He has been at the shelter for way too long and has spent much too much time in a dog run. Please give him a chance to find love again in your home. Dino is running out of time.

Dog Photo Ms. Roxanne is built like a model, tall and thin. She is about 5-6 years old and is an all American Heinz 57. She's a bit shepherd-y and has very cute ears. One stands straight up and the other flops. She is slow to trust, but once she does, she is a total love and very playful. She has such a sweet heart. Roxanne is running out of time.

Dog Photo This handsome neutered Rottie mix is Gazzy. Gazzy is about ten years old, but please don't tell him that because he still thinks he's about 4. Gazzy has had a hard life prior to coming to the shelter. We know this because he was found tied to a structure on our property. He was laying in the grass quietly and we have no idea how long he was there. He was hot, tired, and dehydrated. Gazzy is very suspicious of new people, particularly men. It takes awhile, but once you earn Gazzy's trust you have a special friend for life. Once he knows you will be kind to him he will roll over so you can scratch his belly. He so deserves to be spoiled and loved on. He has no idea he is supposed to be a senior citizen, as he is playful and loves to go on walks. He's a little chubby, but once he gets some exercise he'll go back to his sturdy self. Gazzy has spent so much time waiting at the shelter. Do you have a retirement home for him to live out his last days in comfort?

Dog Photo This good looking hound dog is Ozzy. He is a funny fellow who will sing you a lovely tune. He has a wonderful personality, is playful and loves to be loved on. Ozzy never met a stranger. He is about 6 years old. He is neutered and is a bright boy. He loves humans of all sizes, but cannot go to a home with cats. Ozzy has been in the shelter for far too long. Please help this goofy guy out!

Dog Photo Corky is a lover and will crack you up with his terrier antics. He is a Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix and is smart loveable fella. Corky is tired of being in the shelter he wants to be out sniffing around and being mischievous. He is about 4 years old and has been neutered. He has been in the shelter for way too long. Corky would do best in a home with no cats or kids. Our shelter is closing and Corky is running out of time.

Dog Photo Sallie has been treated cruelly by her previous owners and is slow to trust. However, once you prove yourself to her and she knows you'll be nice, she's a total love. She does not get along well with other dogs or cats, and deserves to be spoiled rotten by her forever home. She has been with us for far too long and is ready to go home. She has been spayed and is about 8 years old. She is currently having some summer skin issues that we are trying to resolve. Please give this loving soul a chance.

Dog Photo Adele is a Chow/Husky mix who is about 7 years old and spayed. Adele is the perfect example of the forgiving souls that dog have. Prior to her arriving at the shelter, Adele had been beaten badly. However, she LOVES people and will do a happy little dance and give you kisses and her best smile when you pay her any attention at all. She is very hand shy, but if you're patient she will let you pet her. Adele is such a sweet soul. She does not walk on a leash and needs a fenced in yard with a patient, loving family. She would do best in a home with no kids as their fast movements would scare her. Please help this loving girl find her forever home and learn to trust again.

Dog Photo This smiley fella is Blaze and he loves a good chin rub. He's not just a handsome face. He has a great personality and has the manners not to jump on you. He loves to be loved on and loves to be outside. He would do best in a fenced yard, but if you're committed to walking him, he would love that too. He has been treated poorly before coming to us and will not get into a crate. He can be food aggressive and would do best in a home with no other dogs or kids. He will be your best friend if you just give him the chance.

All these dogs may be killed if homes/rescue cannot be found for them. These dogs are at:

September 4th New Home Needed for Hannah - Slatington, PA
We need to find a good home for Hannah, 8 month old Laberdoodle-Buvey mix, brindle color. Our 5 year old daughter has severe allergies, and just recently we found out she has developed a salvia allergy to Hannah. We are very sad to have to do this, but we hope we can find someone who will give her as much love as we have! If you are interested in Hannah please email adverte164@dogrescues.info Area: Slatington, Pennsylvania
Dog Photo August 28th New Home Needed for Cody - Puyallup, WA
Cody is a rescue dog, and is in need of a loving forever home. Click here for a larger photo. He is approximately 2-3 years old, medium sized (45 lbs?), black with some tan markings. This dog is wonderful with everyone, he gets along with all people, children of all ages, cats and other dogs. We have birds and other animals here and he has never showed any aggressive tendencies toward any living thing. His coat is normally long and thick so he does require attention to brushing to prevent matting, especially on his hind quarters. We have him shaved down right now for the summer. Cody is very good at going outdoors through our dog door to go potty. In the beginning there were accidents until he caught on to what the dog door was for. ***If you do not provide a dog door, he will potty in the house! Taking him out at intervals proved unsuccessful with him, therefore you need a fenced yard so he can go in and out as he pleases. Cody is an indoor dog and would be very sad to be kept outside away from everyone. His last home was like that, the people got "rid of" his companion dog friend and left him out in the cold by himself. He would make an excellent friend to another dog, as long as your dog is not aggressive. He loves to play and loves to be loved on. If you are interested in Cody please email adverte162@dogrescues.info Wildlife/Domestic Rescue and Rehab. Area: Puyallup, Washington
August 28th Support the Ohio Puppy Mill Bill
Dear Ohio Dog Friends, thanks for your support over the last 2 years of working on the Puppy Mill Bill. We are hopeful the next few weeks will bring us to the finish line and passing of the bill. As with all legislation, we have negotiated language so that all interested parties can come to a middle ground on which we pass the bill. The team of authors and the many hundreds of people who contributed valuable feedback to the language has given us a bill that will regulate the high volume kennels with minimum standards of care of clean food/water, clean living conditions and veterinary care.

If you review language that other states are proposing, you will likely agree that has the best approach. Have we pleased every breeder or rescue person, no, but we have created a law that targets the high volume kennels who are most often the most grievous offenders. Reputable breeders far exceed the minimum standards outlined in the bill. As you may have seen or heard, commercial breeders from the Holmes/Tuscawarus/Coshocton County areas showed up en mass to oppose the Puppy Mill Bill. Renny and Barbie from All Tails R Waggin came up with a great idea to show our unity - everyone wear Buckeye Red. We had a good sized section in the Senate Hearing of Rescue Red last week! The mass of Red was most obvious when Breeder Ervin Raber bragged about spending $3000 on vet bills in 2007 for the 150 dogs in his care. (that's $20 per dog per year in vet care, not including the 1,275-ish puppies that come from his 150 dogs) (Raber testified his dogs have 1.7 litters per year, with an average of 5 pups per litter)

One issue that has come up with the Senators and Representatives is the question of state vs local control. As many of us have experienced for years now, we know local control of puppy mills is a challenge for many reasons. Local dog wardens are extremely busy with running their shelter. Adding inspections and enforcement of standards to their plate will be a burden. And, we all know that giving several very problematic counties in, that kind of authority will be much like the fox guarding the hen house. Local control is also an issue because we are challenged by local prosecutors who refuse to take dog issues seriously, county commissioners who argue they don't have the resources to take care for humans, let alone giving dogs anything beyond food and shelter and judges who have human case loads that will take months to resolve. State level regulation and enforcement is the most pragmatic approach to this state wide issue.

Please email the House Committee Members listed below to let them know you are watching what happens on May 22nd and you want State Level enforcement to protect the dogs who are used to generate millions of dollars in income in. Tell them we are tired of being mentioned in National media as one of the worst states in the country. The Buck stops with them to make a decision that most citizens find simple. Protect the dogs abused and neglected in high volume kennels in.

We are scheduled for a hearing in the House on Thursday, May 22nd at 9:30am. We will be in Room 122, (William Howard Taft Rm). We would like to show our Ohio Legislator's how many people care about this issue. Please attend this hearing wearing your Red to show your support of the Puppy Mill Bill.

Our friends at State Street Consultants have the best map of the State House area at www.StateStreetOhio.com/map.cfm There are also street directions from all directions as well.

We will continue to update our website with information and new pictures from Ohio pup mills. Below you will find links to committee members emails if you would like to contact them to say thanks for the hearings or just let them know you continue to watch the progress of the bill.

Louisiana Death Row Pets Require Rescue Now! These pets are at the Lafayette Animal Control Center, 613 Pont Des Mouton Road, Lafayette, LA 70507. They only have a limited time so please visit the center soon if you can adopt one. Click here for map and directions to the Roicy Duhon Animal Shelter. Alternatively adopt a pet from one of the rescues listed below so that they can rescue more pets from the center. I am requesting that individuals not abuse the staff at the center. They get lots of ugly phone calls and if it gets bad enough this could end up with the rescues being shut out and all the animals destroyed. People from all over have an interest in saving these animals and that is wonderful, but please treat the staff with kindness and understanding.

Click here for the Conditions of Adoption.

Rescues: please take a look and see if you can help any of these pets. We don't have lots of time as the deadline for some will be Thursday at 5pm with PTS Friday morning. Unfortunately the animal center is not open over the weekend. If you have contacts who are LEGIT 501(3)(c) groups and they are within driving distance, please contact them. Rescues must be there by 3pm, non-profit letter, spay/neuter policy and adoption policy faxed to Virginia in advance as well as who can pull for you. You must fax to Virginia proof of rabies and alter within 30 days. If you are unable to provide the necessary paperwork in time try contacting one of the local rescues listed below E.g. Animal Rescue Foundation, to see if they are able to pull the pet for you.

IF YOU CAN FOSTER AN ANIMAL FOR A MINIMUM OF 60-90 DAYS FOR A RESCUE GROUP, PLEASE EMAIL ME AT roicyvolunteers@gmail.com You must be local or within short driving distance of Lafayette, Baton Rouge or New Orleans to foster.

There are many more dogs and cats needing homes and their time is running out. Click here to see this weeks dogs and cats at Lafayette Animal Control Do not see a pet you want this week? Ask about pets that will be up for adoption next week.

Please do not complain to us about the pets that are being destroyed! We did not put them in the shelter because we couldn't (or wouldn't) find them a home! The shelter will make every effort to hold a dog longer than it's expiry date, but this is a very small facility with limited dog kennels. The unwanted animals come in every day, and there are many strays awaiting their turn to go to adoption. Do something useful:
  • Find someone or a rescue who will take the pet.
  • Foster a pet while it awaits transport.
  • Help the rescues transport the pets.
  • Collect donations for pull fees and boarding and send the money to the rescues listed below.
  • Advertize the shelter in your local drug store, newspaper, Etc.
  • Donate a dog bed.
Animal Rescue Foundation, Lafayette, LA often save dogs lives by boarding them until they can be moved to other rescues or new homes. You can help them by donating toward the cost of this by clicking on the Paypal button on their website.

Thanks to all who have donated Kuranda beds. A few have come in, and it is so wonderful to see the dogs dry and comfortable. They need many more, though, and all sizes are needed. Not only does it keep the animals off the cement, but it helps them to show up better, especially the black dogs. There were several black pups adopted and I really think it is because they look so cute against the bright blue beds (blue is the preferred color). Roicy is listed under La> Lafayette. Click here to donate a bed to the Lafayette Animal Control Center. If you have a plastic dog bed you are not using why not drop it in to the Centre. We are located off of Interstate 49, Exit 1B - Pont Des Mouton Road (west side of I-49). Map and directions to the Roicy Duhon Animal Shelter.

Scrap (and hundreds like him) left to die at the pound
Scrap, Jacksonville, FL I saw you with Scrap today. You were smiling and for a while Scrap was sitting next to you with his tail wagging. You were standing in front of the intake counter at Jacksonville Animal Control. You were explaining that you couldn't keep him because he chewed through a $5.00 dollar telephone cord. I heard the lady tell you that they take in at least 100 dogs a day and that Scrap would most likely be euthanized, because he is a bigger dog. You were still smiling and Scrap was still looking up at you with his tail wagging wondering if the new adventure with you was going to involve some new dog friends that he could hear frantically barking all over the building. The lady asked if you wanted his collar and his leash and you took them off (presumably for the new dog you will buy after the holiday) as the lady put on his new plastic Animal Control, ID collar and an Animal Control leash. Scrap was still a good boy, still wagging his tail. As you walked out the door you were still smiling. When you walked out the door Scrap stopped smiling. As he was tied up Scrap's tail stopped wagging and went between his legs and he started crying. Scrap kept trying to get to you long after you were gone. The lady at Animal Control felt bad for him and tried to give him a treat but all Scrap wanted was to be with you so he kept crying. The Animal Control Officer came to get him and Scrap left with him his tail between his legs and his head down. Scrap knew then that you were leaving him at that place and you weren't coming back.

Scrap has seven days until he dies, Scrap probably won't live until Christmas. This is a true story, it just happened yesterday. I don't expect that anyone is going to run down to Jacksonville Animal Control and get Scrap but please if you are thinking about taking your pet to Animal Control - don't. If you are looking for a pet then check at Animal Control as there are so many Scrap's there.

Although Scrap is in Jacksonville, FL, this is also happening hundreds and thousands of times in all towns and counties AND countries. PLEASE take pet ownership seriously! These precious, loving, loyal animals do not deserve this. They ARE man's best friend! In good times and bad times, they'll always be there for you and never judge you. You have a duty to care for your dog, not to dump it because you cannot be bothered to train it or because it is inconvenient to keep it.
